The main road that led to and from Dalmerlington was barely more than a dirt path now and covered in shrubs and small bushes. Gardens once looked after and trimmed to perfection were now rough and overgrown, returning back to their chaotic natural state.
Some doorways seemed in relative decent condition while others were destroyed and were indistinguishable from other collapsed walls and piles of rubble. Many buildings stood precariously upright despite looking like they had no means to do so. It'd take just a slight nudge of a strong wind to tipple them all over.
Dalmerlington, once a growing town on the rise to a better future was now a mere distant memory of better times. Bird songs, animals rustling in the bushes and trees and the various animal sounds from stray pets and other wild animals had taken the place of the sounds of a bustling community.
In a strange sense of irony it was the library that was full of sounds now. Scattered pages of books, scratched wood and broken computers had become the home and playground of a huge community of cats.
Were it not for the animals that had made their home in many of the buildings this town would've surely been a far more unsettling sight. But even though everything may seem like it was lost forever there was still a silver lining. While this town was no longer home to the families that lived here, it was now home to families of wild animals.
